My vision for Doraville in the next year include: Retention of John King as our Chief of Police;
completion of the City's Zoning Ordinance; putting a city planner/economic developer on staff;
hiring a Coordinator of Cultural Affairs to communicate, educate, and involve our multi-cultural
residents in our community; repair of our crumbling and ineffective Storm Water Drainage System;
create a "Neighbor in Need" program (which would not be funded by taxpayer funds, rather by
grants and/or contributions from residents and businessmen, but operated by a board or residents,
to help our needy neighbors); planting trees around city buildings and other areas of our city;
sidewalks on Central Avenue and Park Avenue; working to obtain the development of the GM
property which will be beneficial to the City and its citizens and businesses.
5 years: We will have many more businesses and mixed-use development with people living
near or above their workplace and/or shops; possible annexation of such areas as Buford
Highway to the Gwinnett County line, and of the Oakcliff School and surrounding areas; planned
development of New Peachtree Road; improvements and increased parking at the Library;
renovation of our Court building; more trees and greenspace; and more pedestrian friendly
streets and shopping areas.
10 years: The City Hall complex and other city buildings will be energy efficient and
environmentally responsible with solar energy; new developments will have roof gardens
which will reduce pollution; continued greenspace development.
In addition, I envision that City Hall will be renovated and perhaps a second story added
to provide additional office space; more city vehicles will be powered by alternate fuels;
sidewalks and driveways will be made of permeable materials to decrease our storm
water run-off water; and many other new and innovative ideas will make our city a Better
Place to Live.
