I am Mayor Ray Jenkins, and I am seeking re-election as Mayor of the City of Doraville
My philosophy is to ask "What can I do for my city and community, rather than ask what my city and
community can do for me, " to paraphrase one of our Presidents. I have therefore devoted my life to
public and community service. For example, I served our country during the Korean War. I have also
served the community as a Boy Scout Leader, and I have been active in North DeKalb sports for our
youth and I have been involved in various church activities. I was active in the North DeKalb Lions
Club, and I am currently a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 714. In addition, during the early
1990s, I assisted Ms. Corrine Lang in organizing the Northwoods Civic Association (now called the
NNA). I also served on the Doraville Planning Board in the early 1970s. I have served in city
government in a variety of ways. I organized the first Doraville Animal Control Unit. I served the
citizens of Doraville as their Councilman from 1974 to 2003. I have served as Mayor of our City.
My years of public service as Councilman and Mayor have provided me with opportunities to identify
and solve problems that the City faces on a daily basis. I have worked with people from all walks of
life on various projects and programs that have made our city and community a better place to live and
to maintain a business. I always listen to different points of view, knowing that each citizen brings a
diverse perspective to community issues, and understanding that each citizen may have different needs
from community leaders. I am therefore experienced in cooperating and dealing with diverse opinions
to get the job done. As demonstrated by my actions in public service and as Mayor, it is my belief that
that honesty and truthfulness are the best policies whether conducting public or private affairs.
